When your MUST-RUN equipment MUST-RUN!

AFSOC has a strong interest in the heating technology due to its lightweight and flexible form factor that could easily be modified for multiple use cases.
— AFSOC End User Assessment

Cold weather operations negatively impact every aspect of military operations, including training, equipping, sustaining, casualty treatment, and evacuation.

Our products have been tested and proven in multiple extreme cold weather exercises by U.S. and NATO Warfighters, used in actual law enforcement operations, evaluated by hunters/outdoorsmen and many others. They have passed third party tests (including civilian and MIL-STD 810G) and are being sold to multiple NATO units. [The U.S. DoD does not currently have written requirements for extreme cold weather solutions.]

New and evolving versions are integration-capable with multiple existing and new battery-operated products!

PROBLEM:

  • Battlefield becoming increasingly electrified

    • Increasing battery #s and weight

    • Growing logistical battery/critical materials challenge

    • Shift away from traditional battery manufacturers

      • No short term replacement

      • Slow and costly innovation & transition

      • Few cold weather options

      • Longer missions with fewer re-supply options

Warfighters must do more with less!

Our innovative heating and power management solutions have been proven to extend mission duration by keeping batteries, electronics and warfighters operating in the most extreme conditions.

SOLUTION:

  • While long-term energy generation/storage solutions are being developed (including our own) improving current batteries/electronics and power performance

  • Warfighter approved

Priority - Integration Capable

  • 2 low SWaP-C components designed to be integrated into multiple existing products in same form factor

    - including batteries, hand-held battery-operated devices such as EUDs, Radios, Drones, medical devices, battery bags and more.

  • man-wearable

  • Stand-alone capability

  • PTC Heater

  • Power/Data Module

Technology & Products

  • Man Wearables

Exposure to Cold environments negatively impacts Warfighter performance – loss of dexterity; cognitive decline; increased work/rest cycles; and can have long-term health impacts. Lightweight, low power man-wearable PTC electronic heaters provide targeted spot-warming to core & extremities and will mitigate the effects of cold environments.

  • End User Devices (EUDs)

Extreme cold weather can have catastrophic effects on EUDs, (including electronics) including significantly diminished battery life, temporary usability issues, and lead to irreversible damage over time. In order to maintain an EUD's internal temperature to allow continual, uninterrupted operation, it needs a lightweight, small form factor, low power active heating source such as the CSi Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) electronic heater.

Founded in 2010 initially to develop advanced energy technologies, CSi has expanded its R&D focus to include technologies that maintain and enhance the performance of man-wearable and battery-operated devices for our Warfighters in extreme cold environments. Along the way we received multiple DoD Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awards; conducted > 100 individual Warfighter field evaluations with evolving prototype deliveries; successfully completed a joint USSOCOM/NATO technology sprint (‘22), passed NATO extreme testing (‘23); and transitioned some of our products into NATO (‘24).

We have worked closely with many US and international military and units, research labs and private companies representing a broad range of specialties including: Tier 1, 2 and 3 units; federal, state and local police departments; medical teams and device manufacturers; extreme outdoor training/equipment manufacturers; drone manufacturers; battery companies; and more. Our high efficient, low SWaP-C man-wearable electronic heaters have been tested by used in multiple cold weather police operations,

Our products have been tested and demonstrated in multiple field exercises, experimentations (including JIFX, TE SOCOM, NATO, ICE-PPR, Thunderstorm (medical)), and other events.  Other groups and SMEs we have worked with include: The Ohio State Highway Patrol Special Response Team; multiple federal, state and local law enforcement and medical teams;
